Each magnesium tablet contains Esomeprazole Magnesium (Nexium), a proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid and prevents ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infections. It is used for peptic ulcers, heartburn, and abdominal ulcers. Esomeprazole magnesium tablets work by decreasing the amount of stomach acid your stomach absorbs. The main ingredient in Nexium is magnesium trihydrate, a powerful acid blocker that helps to reduce stomach acid. This makes it a good choice for treating chronic conditions that can affect your stomach, such as acid reflux, acid reflux disease, and ulcers.
Nexium is used to treat peptic ulcers, heartburn, and abdominal ulcers caused by H. Pylori, a bacteria that can cause ulcers when taking certain medications. Nexium works by stopping the acid from the stomach from being able to pass through the esophagus and stomach.
Nexium should be taken as directed by your doctor. The usual dose is 1 to 2 milligrams. This medication is taken with or without food.
Do not take Nexium if you are allergic to esomeprazole, omeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole, or any of its ingredients. It is not known if it should be taken with food or not.

The UK’s General Medical Council’s medical watchdog, the National Institute for Health Research, has recommended a ban on the sale of Nexium, an acid blocker for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease.
The committee said that the medicine is “well tolerated and effective” in treating patients with chronic acid reflux, where patients can safely stop taking it.
The panel also recommended that pharmacists not prescribe it to patients who have experienced serious complications with reflux or an acid-related heartburn.
The committee recommended that pharmacists have been warned against prescribing Nexium in an “unprecedented” number of patients after an extensive review of clinical and patient data.
The committee said the evidence is insufficient and that, in addition, the evidence for a long-term effect of Nexium is insufficient.
